Being in a difficult place in his career, Bob Dylan had special goals and hopes for his 33rd release, Together Through Life. For this reason he went out and asked for help co-writing, he really wanted to out-do any work he had done before, which obviously was a huge challenge.
There are a few changed Dylan has made in this past album from his usual classic and poetic feel. One difference is a more jazzy tone. His two great songs on the CD are “Life is Hard” and “This Dream of You” which are both love ballads and definitely represent the others that you will find on it.
It has a more reflective sound, and features more love songs that a Dylan album has ever featured before. That is what makes it different than some of his previous albums. The days of folk rock are gone for Dylan, and this album speaks to what he has left to say. The accompanying band brings more jazz to the table in this record, which is something that Dylan had wanted prior to recording. That bluesy addition will change the Dylan sound a little bit, but there will still be room on the songs for Dylan to lead with his piercing voice.
