Who is the Decade’s Biggest Rock Band

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

With a decade of music behind us, it’s time to recognize some of the many great musical talents whose work defined the last ten years. While I could list many more than five, I figured that I might as well narrow it down to the most influential and prolific bands of the decade in my mind.

In doing this, I’d like to narrow it down to five before choosing one in my mind whose influence and body of work was stronger than any other. There’s no right answer to this, as it’s all a matter of personal tastes.

The first band I’d like to nominate here is the White Stripes. The garage rock duo of Jack and Meg White is really important in the music world for a number of reasons.

Most notably, they spearheaded the whole garage rock movement and many bands followed suit. More importantly, they produced a handful of quality records throughout the decade and the two of them have a sound that’s richer than bands with give and more members. The White Stripes get a nod for innovating music that’s simplistic in its roots.

by Robert Jizawa

Cats have fascinated and intrigued people of the world, for ages. First domesticated then worshipped in ancient Egypt , later bred and exported abroad, cats became loyal companions and objects of admiration.

The Broadway Musical “Cats” is an excellent example of how these animals can influence artists in different periods of time.

Major literary works have included cats as central characters such as L. Tolstoy’s “Master and Margarita.” They were also important companions for celebrities such as Sir Winston Churchill, who insisted that his cat, Jock, was at the table before any meal was to begin.

Sir Isaac Newton created the cat flap, now called the door flap, to stop his cats from letting too much light in the laboratory by opening hte door. Although it was invented in the 17th century, the door flap is still a necessity to let cats in and out of the house with ease.

The Black Cat Superstitions

Tagged Under : , ,

Most people won’t admit to being superstitious. Perhaps that’s because the definition of superstition’ is an unreasonable belief based on stupidity or fear, or both. Nobody wants to appear ignorant or fearful. Yet you may find well-educated, very successful people who won’t walk under a ladder or who will bury the pieces of a broken mirror or who throw salt over their shoulders if salt is spilled. You’ll find people who, if a black pussy crosses their path, turn around and go back home or take another road to their destination.

Black cats are somehow related to malicious, with magicians, and even with sickness. Black doggies have been assigned the blame for everything from a run of bad luck to the plague and all the injustices of the Earth.

essentially, gullible ideology change from country to country and even from region to region. Having a black cat cross your path in England or Japan is claimed to bring’ luck, but having a black moggy cross your path in America and another European states is said to bring’ luck.

by Ferdinand Emy

Meditation beads are important for those who participate in mantra meditations. These beads, called Mala beads, are counted with each repetition of a mantra, or with each completion of a breathing exercise. The beads are of religious significance to the Hindu, as they are believed to be the first individuals to utilize the Mala, where the beads are commonly referred to as the Japa Mala. Japa, or the repetition of a mantra or name of a diety, is a fundamental part of the Hindu meditation practices. Mala have 108 beads normally built from Rudraksha seeds. The Rudraksha seed holds religious significance, as the typical bead has five faces, which is symbolic to the number of faces of Shiva.

Meditation beads are not only made from the Rudraksha seed. As meditation by mantra has gained popularity, the styles and sorts of items used in the string of beads has evolved. For those of great wealth, precious and semi-precious stones have replaced the simple seeds, as well as seeds from more exotic plants. The materials in some meditation beads are similarly various based off of which religion they are being used for.

Christianity, for example, tends to utilize meditation beads referred to as a prayer bread, which is composed of fifty-nine different beads. These beads are predictably designed of glass, amethyst, rose quartz stone, crystal, black onyx, lavender glass or pearl, with the center crucifix being designed of silver or gold.

A spring between transparency and sport style

Tagged Under :

by Dosio Mishkor

Following the boudoir line of design “the pajamas, transparency seems a very natural interpretation of the ultra-feminine tendency of this season. If in the fall the designers became puritans covering the womens silhouettes and using creativity in a more conservatory and Spartan style, for spring 2009 they totally spin it around 180 degrees. The creations are effectively a poem written for the female body-or even better a libertine tribute in its honor.

Transparent tops, daring cut dresses, sheer overalls and pants, pellucid skirts leave no room for imagination, and the breasts, hips and legs are boldly presented on the catwalk. From New York to London almost every designer like Erdem, Derek Lam, Roksanda Ilincic, Nina Ricci, and Cavalli inspired different transparent forms.

The romantic but in the same time minimalist idea of getting rid of the excess was used by the designers not only in order to attract attention on the body but also to make a statement against recession. Interpreted in fashion the message goes like this: Life is short, feel free and love your body.

Celebrity Autographs and Collectibles

by Mark Turgeon

Across the nation, millions of Americans spend tons of money each year on their favorite past time, which may seem useless to some: collecting items. Some collect action figures, comic books, or trinkets and knick-knacks; others collect celebrity autographs and signed memorabilia that can turn a profit. For years, people were limited to toting their collections from one trade show to the next, or to the nearest convention (which is usually hours away for most).

With the rise of the internet, the world of the collectibles niche is easier for the hobby because you can buy and sell your items on websites like eBay rather than going to card shows or conventions.

Sports cards and comic books are all great collectibles and are more valuable with an addition of a signature. Celebrity autographs seem to impress our society as if they are some status signature.
